Product Log and Why You Should Keep the Labels

Keeping a product log is a practical habit for professional nail work. It helps you record which products were used, when they were opened, which shade or batch information was available, and where the original label or packaging information can be found.

For salon organisation, keep the product name, brand, shade or colour code, purchase date, opening date where relevant, and any visible batch or lot information from the bottle, box or supplier documentation. If a client later asks what was used, or if a product question needs to be checked, this record makes it easier to trace the exact item.

Labels should be kept because they may contain product identity, warnings, manufacturer or responsible-person information, batch details, volume, usage directions or ingredient information. Do not rely only on memory or a colour swatch, because similar shades and product names can be confused over time.

A simple product log can be a notebook, spreadsheet or salon software record. The important point is consistency: record the product details close to the time of use, keep labels or photos of labels where appropriate, and check the product page or supplier information if something is unclear.
