What are glitter gels?

Glitter gels are gel products pre-mixed with cosmetic-grade glitter. They cure under a UV/LED lamp and provide a stable, encapsulated glitter finish. Compared to loose glitter, glitter gels offer more control, less mess and better durability.

Types of glitter gels

  • Fine glitter gels – small particles for an even, sparkling surface.
  • Chunky / mix glitters – mixed sizes and shapes for a more textured, bold effect.
  • Reflective / flash glitter gels – special pigments that reflect strongly under direct light or flash.
  • Glitter top gels – transparent or lightly tinted gels with dispersed glitter for layering.
  • Glitter builder or syrup gels – glitter combined with structure or sheer colour for specific design effects.

Combining glitter with magnetic (cat-eye) and syrup gels

Glitter gels can be combined with magnetic / cat-eye gels and syrup gels to create layered designs:

  • Apply a cat-eye gel, create the magnetic line, cure, then add a thin layer of glitter top gel for subtle sparkle.
  • Layer syrup gels over fine glitter for a soft “blurred” or milk-bath effect.
  • Use glitter gels selectively on accent nails while keeping magnetic or syrup designs on other fingers.

How to apply glitter gels

  1. Prepare the nail and apply a compatible base or builder gel; cure under a suitable UV/LED lamp.
  2. Apply a thin layer of glitter gel and distribute the particles evenly with the brush; cure.
  3. For more coverage or intensity, apply a second thin layer and cure again.
  4. Refine the surface if needed (especially with chunky glitter) and seal with an appropriate top gel.
  5. Ensure full curing according to the manufacturer’s recommended times.

When and why use glitter gels?

  • For long-lasting sparkle that is encapsulated in gel and resistant to daily wear.
  • To create accent nails, full glitter sets or detailed nail art.
  • For event, bridal, holiday and content-creation designs where light reflection is important.
  • To layer over colour, syrup or magnetic gels for multi-dimensional effects.

FAQ – Glitter gels

Are glitter gels thicker than normal colour gels?
Many glitter gels have a slightly higher viscosity to hold the particles in place. Thin, controlled layers and proper curing are important for a smooth finish.

Do I need to encapsulate chunky glitter?
With chunky or mix glitters, it is often advisable to compensate and seal with a builder or top gel to achieve a smooth surface and protect the glitter particles.

Can I remove glitter gels like other soak-off gels?
Removal depends on the system (soak-off vs non-soak-off). Glitter can make removal slightly longer compared to plain colour. Follow the manufacturer’s removal instructions for the specific gel line.
