As of 1 September 2025, the EU will ban TPO in cosmetic products due to its classification as a reproductive toxicant (CMR Category 1B).
TPO is widely used in nail gels as a photoinitiator, but will no longer be permitted unless specifically exempted.
Many brands are reformulating, while others are withdrawing from the EU market altogether.
Nail technicians must stop using TPO-based products professionally after the ban and ensure traceability of compliant stock.
The industry is transitioning toward safer, TPO-free formulations, with clear labelling and increased regulatory awareness.
